This Puerto Rican Brooklyn barber by the name of Blowout is razor sharp with his craft and cutting hair is just the beginning. Now cutting records, chopping beats and lyrically releasing darts all together make up the talented Hip Hop mastermind. It is truly a blessing how people can find time to do it all.
Blowout is 1/4 of the multitalented DJ crew Turntable Anihilists, a group in which all can hold their own in many aspects of the Hip Hop elements. As a son of an aspiring dancer and musician/artist, Blowout grew up with the passionate desire to carry the torch that was passed to him and pick up where his parents had to leave off. From the age of 17, Blowout started working as a professional barber in brooklyns now gentrified neighborhood Bushwick. While making money to support his expensive music hobbies and responsibilities, he was practicing his crafts, interacting and analyzing people. This lifestyle has been beneficial to Blowout because it helped him stay close to the people and focused on reality, with songs now touching topics such as social issues, politics, ego, spirit and emotion. And with a list of musical influences like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Grand Master Flash, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, OutKast, Rakim, KRS ONE, Nas, Jill Scott, Jay-Z, Mos Def and Common, there is no wonder why his lyrical content is the way it is. Fusing his latin heritage into production with hip hop funk under heavy content rhymes is a rarity nowadays. Taking risks in music is the one thing that expands the culture as a whole and Blowout is one of those risktaking guys. Whether it's haircuts, beats or concepts! Even as a DJ, he can be found in a club rocking for a top 40 crowd and then throwing in that obscure record during peak time. Spinning for the mainstream nightlife, underground lounge folk and almost everything in between for the teens up to the old school heads. Steering away from the obvious but pleasing the audience is his style.
The renaissance man Blowout has not yet reached worldwide status but is far from local. He has toured with the Scratch DJ Academy for over a month across the U.S., also showcasing in three major cities in Canada and overseas in Europe. These experiences carved a broader perspective and helped Blowout create more universal music. Coming to the more recent years in his hip hop life, it is evident that soul searching and maturity are the creative directors behind the scenes. With all of the fabricated artists tainting the culture today, it is refreshing to hear what goes on in the mind of a real person. The essence of a true hip hop soul is undeniably felt when Blowout is on stage performing. Blood, sweat, tears and personality make a great how! Visual enough to be on Broadway, his lyrics narrated the first hip hop show in NYC's New Victory Theater "Soular Power'd" for a three week run. Blowout has either opened up for or shared the stage with the likes of many artists such as Common, Beatnuts, JLive, Michelle Ndegecello, Del the Funky Homosapien, Immortal Technique, Non Phixion, Dilated Peoples, Black Moon, Maya Azucena, Little Brother and more. He has also had multiple televsion appearances including MTV2's Due Circuit Breakout band challenge including a live performance for the finals. Now we have a face to match the sound. PBS aired the Soular Power'd show, BCAT aired various show footage from NYC venues. Collaborating with hip hop artists, R&B vocalists and many musicians shows versitility. In the Pete Miser band, Blowout cuts records with a turntablist twist using the wheels for more than just spinning the record but as an actual instrument. As well as for the stage show with Ronny Jordan, the legendary Jazz guitar player. He has guest appeared in several Rusted Root shows incuding LA's House of Blues and a Michigan State college show for over 4000 people! Blowout has showcased for numerous NYC venues such as Wetlands, Tramps, S.O.B.s, Blue Note, Speed, Pyramid, Joe's Pub, Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, The Knitting Factory and the Brooklyn Museum for a hip hop exibition. From the internet to FM radio, Blowout is no stranger to the airwaves. From the legendary Stretch and Bobbito show to Fat Beats radio online, his name is buzzing. He has independently distibuted thousands of CDs across and out of the country via websites and showcases and plans to multiply his fanbase with future projects and ideas
Blowout "is" Hip Hop and the epidemy of crativity, that will be a Master of all trades & Jack of none!
