The Music: The music performed by MEMPHIS is a blend of many musical genres. Pick a sound such as rock, folk, blues, jazz, rockabilly and psychedelic; take the energy of those genres; focus them into musical harmonies, and you get the undiminished soul of MEMPHIS. The individuality of each of these distinct parts allows the music to cross over any limits that may exist in the faces of today's music.

The Band: MEMPHIS was formed in 1998 in Chapel Hill, NC. Since the band was founded, the sound has grown and changed and captured many audiences. The satiable lyrics accompanied by the sound of the rhythmic bass, pulsating guitar, heartfelt saxophone, soulful keys and the driving beat of the drums will take you on journeys through the mind and leave you longing for more.

The Present: MEMPHIS released Radio in the Summer of 2006. Radio was recorded and produced by Jeremy Thompson at Selling Days Studios in Pittsboro, NC. MEMPHIS is playing and supporting their new album. Radio releases the true sound of MEMPHIS. They are also supporting the release of Scott Morgan's book Paradise: The Last Place on Earth. The band previously released "Last of the Cadillac Days" and "Cheap Poems" and "Mulberry Creek". Last of the Cadillac Days showcases unforgettable lyrics and music that moves you. Perhaps described best by Jeri Rowe as "beautiful stuff in all its ragged, raise-your-glass glory". Cheap Poems is strong, diverse, energetic and mesmerizing. The lyrics penetrate and linger long after the music has stopped. With every song, MEMPHIS delivers what has made them loved amongst their fans and peers alike, solid musical diversity that keeps everyone rocking and moving.

The Future: MEMPHIS looks forward to providing new and exciting music both live and in recorded form. The band plans to tour extensively, see the world, and spread their music by capturing audiences everywhere. Catch them if you can!

Memphis the Band - Radio (self-released)

Though the sound of Memphis the Band has a distinct rock edge that comes through in the rough-hewn guitar, energetic drum fills and Hammond B3 organ parts, the overall feel is still undeniably twangy.

Scott Morgan’s smoke-and-whiskey voice spins the story of a fallen soldier on “The Ballad of Whatever” over a roadhouse backbeat and wails on “Sleeping Pills” in a way that brings visions of Bob Dylan to tthe head of the listener.

The full sound of the band works to create parts that play amongst themselves and propel the lyrics to the fore. And fortunately for Memphis the Band, most of the lyrics ain’t half bad.

Granted, despite some vocal similarities, these are not songs penned by Dylan or Willie Nelson, but they still convey stories and emotions clearly and convincingly.
